Melis Özdemir

Melis Özdemir is a visual storyteller working at the intersection of journalism and sociology. She graduated from Ankara University Department of Journalism in 2023 and is currently pursuing graduate studies in Journalism while also studying Sociology. Her interdisciplinary background informs her work, which focuses on social issues, cultural identity and visual narratives. She began photography during her undergraduate studies and worked at the university photography workshop, gaining technical and editorial experience. She later worked as a concert photographer and participated in the documentary project Semah: Endless Motion, photographing cultural practices across Turkey. She currently focuses on analog photography and darkroom-based production methods. Her research on women photojournalists and gender inequality has been published in an academic journal. Her interests include documentary photography, analog photography, gender studies, and cultural documentation.
