About

Efekan Akyüz was born in Ankara. He graduated from an Anatolian High School in Ankara and is currently studying Photography and Camerawork at Anadolu University. He has an intermediate level of English (B1). He is an Ankara-based photojournalist and video reporter. His work focuses on documenting social movements, political developments, environmental struggles, and post-disaster life in Turkey through a field-based and immersive approach. In his journalistic practice, he combines breaking news coverage with long-term visual projects. He works as a freelance photographer and video journalist for national and international media outlets.He currently contributes to BBC Türkçe, Reuters, Gazete Oksijen, and Fayn Press. He previously worked with Depo Photos, Middle East Images, and SOPA Images. His work has been published widely across national and international platforms. Following the devastating earthquakes of February 6, 2023, which affected Turkey and Syria, he actively reported from disaster zones, documenting search and rescue operations, temporary shelters, and the rebuilding of daily life.He closely followed the environmental resistance of villagers in İkizköy, Muğla, against a mining project. For this work, he received the Musa Anter Special Jury Award in 2023. He served as Director of Photography for the feature-length documentary ARAF, which was screened at international festivals and became a finalist in the Documentary Category at the Adana Altın Koza Film Festivali. Based in Ankara, he continues to work independently, producing news photography, video reports, and documentary projects. His work centers on human stories, focusing on themes of social justice, environmental destruction, public space, and social transformation.
